Polycystic ovary syndrome - the most common cause of infertility

Rezumat: Polycystic ovary syndrome is the main cause of infertility in women. The etiology of this pathology is not fully elucidated, the main cause being the hormonal imbalance. To establish the correct diagnosis of polycystic ovarian syndrome, the Rotterdam criteria are used and the patient must meet at least 2 of the 3 criteria. This pathology has an important impact on the quality of life due to the symptoms and signs it causes: infertility, virilization, obesity and menstrual cycle disorders. The complications that may occur in the absence of proper treatment also have a negative impact, the main complications being ovarian cysts, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The treatment is determined according to the patient’s desire to procreate.
